Ones to watch: Sparrowhawks

2014-04-24 22.28.14-1It’s almost this time of the year where we think about the best performances and the best records we heard throughout the year from various bands.

But it’s also time to rediscovering these acts like this one hailing from North Wales borders, Sparrowhawks. We saw them back at Focus Wales in April 2014.They sounded of course really promising.

And the good news is….they are releasing a brand new EP Cool Your Blood Down via the label Drum With Our Hands.

Starting off with the sunny track All That I Am Holding Is Your Hand, we are submerging into some magical welsh roadtrip. On Love Is Colours they drive us through catchy rhythms, a beautiful music rodeo mixing rock with folk reminiscing of Smoke Fairies or Cate Le Bon.

Then the Chester/Wrexham quartet is heading back to the roots of country vibes with Cool Your Blood Down. Beats are omnipresent with the drums, well-fitted with the guitar/bass riffs and the vocal harmonies.

It’s mixed with Pinnacle, a quieter song, which sometimes can make us think about the likes of Camera Obscura or Belle And Sebastian.

All comes to a beautiful ends with I Might, a great way to melancholia exploring a bit of psychedelic instrumentation with great boys/girls vocal harmonies provided by Sophie Ballamy and her friends.

You can soon catch them live to hear these tunes and more just here:
Oxjam Chester 2014 (Fri 17th October, Telford’s Warehouse)

Carefully Planned Festival (Sun 19th October, Soup Kitchen, Manchester)

FOCUS Wales presents: the WINTER MIXER 2014! (Sat Dec 6th-the STIWT THEATRE, RHOS, WREXHAM)
